ETHYLIC STORIES
Photographs by Nikos Basias

LOTOS Open Art Gallery continues its commitment to bringing art beyond major urban centres and creating new encounters between art, place and local communities.

This time, through its artistic curation, the LOTOS Open Art Gallery brings to the exceptional setting of the Voukolies Art Multicenter a new photographic exhibition by visual artist and photographer Nikos Basias, the “Ethylic Stories”.

A narrative that begins with the fruit and follows its journey to the final distillate. Photography meets the mantinada — the traditional Cretan rhyming couplet, a living form of oral poetry — as well as aroma and taste, creating an exhibition experience that goes beyond the image.

A central part of the exhibition is the tasting experience, through which visitors complete the journey from the image to the distillate itself. Fruit eaux-de-vie, aged tsikoudia and aged tsipouro carry the narrative from the gallery wall to the glass, giving the photographic story a truly sensory and, quite literally, tasteful continuation.
